Chapter 6 - Shadows Over the PavilionThe room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence. The hum of the trailer's generator was the only sound in the space.

Maya looked down at the check, then looked up at Julian Caldwell.
In that single moment, eight years of struggle, cold nights on mountain ridges, unpaid invoices, and arrogant executives telling her she wasn't good enough flashed through her mind.
She reached out her hand toward the desk.
Julian’s smile broadened. “Wise decision.”
Maya’s fingers touched the check. Slowly, deliberately, she picked it up, folded it in half, and tore it cleanly down the middle.
She dropped the torn pieces back onto his pristine mahogany desk.
“My integrity isn't for sale, Mr. Caldwell,” Maya said, her voice ringing with absolute, unbreakable conviction. “And my father taught me never to take money from a thief.”
Julian’s face went pale with rage. He slammed his fist onto the desk, standing up so fast his chair rolled backward into the wall.
“You foolish girl!” Julian snarled. “Security!”
The heavy door opened, and two broad-shouldered security guards stepped into the trailer, blocking the exit.
“You aren't leaving this trailer with that camera bag,” Julian ordered, his eyes wild with fury. “Search her gear.”
Before the guards could take a step forward, Daniel Reyes moved.
With the lightning speed of a seasoned climber used to split-second survival decisions, Daniel stepped between the guards and Maya. He grabbed the lead guard’s wrist, applying a precise pressure point that forced the man to his knees with a sharp gasp of pain.

Daniel shoved the second guard back into the doorframe, clearing a path.
“Run, Maya!” Daniel roared.
