Chapter 20 - The Unwritten Future|

Six months later.

The spring rain washed over Chicago, painting the city streets in silver ribbons under the morning sun.

Inside the newly renovated pediatric wing of Saint Mercy's Hospital, children's laughter echoed down the bright, warm corridors.

Naomi stood near the glass floor-to-ceiling windows, wearing her white director's coat, holding a mug of warm tea, watching the rain trickle down the pane.

Footsteps sounded behind her—heavy, familiar, and steady.

Raymond walked into her office, wearing a dark suit, carrying a bouquet of fresh white roses. He set the flowers on her marble desk, walking up behind her, wrapping his broad arms around her waist, resting his cheek against her dark hair.

"How is the hospital today, my love?" Raymond whispered into her ear.

"It's peaceful," Naomi smiled, resting her hands over his on her waist. "We saved three trauma patients last night."

Raymond leaned down, pressing his lips against her neck, his gray eyes soft and full of an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

Through the rain-slicked window, a dark sleek SUV sat parked in the private bay below, guarded by loyal men—a reminder of the world he commanded outside these walls.

But inside this room, beneath the bright, warm lights, the King of Chicago was simply a man holding the woman who had saved his soul.

"Are you ready to go home, Naomi?" Raymond asked softly.

Naomi turned in his arms, smiling up into his storm-gray eyes, her hands resting over his heart.

"I am home, Raymond," she whispered, raising her face to meet his kiss under the bright spring light.

Far out on the calm waters of Lake Michigan, the dark storm of their past had finally cleared, leaving behind a future that no force on earth could ever tear apart again.
