At midnight, as they returned to the lakefront estate in a black Maybach, Marcus turned from the front passenger seat, holding an encrypted glass tablet.
"Boss," Marcus reported grimly, his tone shifting the peaceful atmosphere instantly. "We have a ping from the federal task force."
Raymond’s eyes turned cold, his arm wrapping securely around Naomi’s waist. "Talk."
"Don Genovese died in federal custody two hours ago," Marcus revealed. "Heart failure. But before he died, he signed a deposition naming your late father’s estate in a thirty-year cold case involving the harbor land deeds."
Naomi looked up at Raymond, seeing his jaw clench hard.
"What harbor land deeds?" Naomi asked softly.
"The land Saint Mercy's Hospital sits on," Raymond revealed raspy. "My father bought that land in 1995 to build a free medical center for the city. Genovese forged the deeds to turn it into a commercial dock."
He turned his gray eyes to Naomi, a dark, dangerous determination setting into his feature.
"Genovese tried to steal your hospital from the grave," Raymond whispered. "He wants the city to seize Saint Mercy's."
Naomi's eyes flashed with her own fierce resolve. She reached out, resting her hand flat against his broad chest.

"Then we fight him from the courtroom to the docks, Raymond," Naomi stated flatly. "That hospital belongs to this city. And no dead mobster is taking it away."
A slow, dark, proud smile spread across Raymond's face as he pulled his wife closer against his chest.
