Chapter 11 - The Blood on the Marble|

Carmine Genovese backed his chair up two inches, his arrogant composure rapidly disintegrating as he looked into Raymond's storm-gray eyes.
"Raymond... listen to me," Genovese stammered, sweat breaking out across his forehead. "It was a misunderstanding. The dock ambush... my captains acted without my authorization—"
"You sent three gunmen into Trauma Room Three at Saint Mercy’s," Raymond interrupted, his voice dropping into an icy register that made every captain in the room go rigid. "You brought street violence into a public hospital. You put a woman I protect in danger."
"She’s just an ER nurse!" Genovese shrieked, panic breaking through his voice as he looked around at the other captains for support. "Since when does the King of Chicago care about a county hospital employee?!"
Raymond slowly reached inside his tailored jacket.
Every bodyguard in the room reached for their weapons, but Marcus and the six Lockwood soldiers raised their suppressed submachine guns instantly, pointing them directly at the heads of the Genovese detail.
CLICK.
Raymond didn't pull a gun. He pulled out a small glass thumb drive, tossing it onto the marble table in front of Genovese.
"That drive contains twenty years of Genovese wire transfers to the federal task force," Raymond said flatly. "You're a rat, Carmine. You've been selling out the Commission to the FBI since 2018."
The captains around the table gasped, several of them jumping to their feet in absolute fury.
"Lies!" Genovese screamed, scrambling out of his chair. "He's fabricating evidence!"
"Check line forty-seven, captains," Raymond said smoothly, stepping back. "The accounts match his private vault in Zurich."
An elderly Don named Moretti leaned over, scanning the monitor screen Marcus provided. Moretti’s face turned into a mask of pure disgust.
"Treason," Moretti growled, pointing his finger at Genovese. "He sold us out."

Raymond looked down at Genovese, who was weeping on the floorboards, completely stripped of his power.
"The River North territory remains mine," Raymond declared to the room. "And Genovese... is retired."
