Chapter 10 - A New Code

Six months later, the sun shone brightly over Boston’s south side.
Clara stood in front of a massive, newly constructed building.
The sign above the gleaming glass doors read: The Elena Vance Youth Foundation.
Julian stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
He rested his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of her vanilla shampoo.
“It’s beautiful,” Clara whispered, tears of joy stinging her eyes.
“It is exactly what this neighborhood deserves,” Julian replied softly.

He still commanded absolute fear and respect in the city, but he used it to build rather than destroy.
“The kids are going to love the new art studio,” Clara beamed, turning in his arms.
Julian smiled, reaching into his tailored suit jacket.
He pulled out a small velvet box, flipping it open to reveal a stunning diamond ring.
Clara gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
“I broke my strictest rule the day I met you,” Julian murmured, dropping to one knee on the bustling sidewalk.
“Now, I want to make a new one.”
He looked up at her, his soul entirely hers.
“Rule number one: You and I, for the rest of our lives.”
Clara laughed through her tears, nodding vigorously.

“Yes,” she cried, pulling him up for a kiss.
And as the city rushed by around them, the syndicate leader finally found his peace in the arms of the teacher he saved.
