Chapter 4 - The Quiet EmpireWhile the ambulance sped toward St. Judeâs Trauma Center with my daughter inside, I stood on the wet driveway holding a thick leather folder that my attorney, Victoria Vance, had just delivered to my truck.

Judith was screaming at the officers as they placed Brandon into the back of a police cruiser.
âYou canât do this!â Judith shrieked. âOur attorneys will have him out on bail in twenty minutes! Do you know who owns Vale Real Estate Corporation? We will sue this entire department!â
I walked up to her, holding the leather folder.
âYou don't own Vale Real Estate, Judith,â I said, opening the folder to reveal a stamped deed bearing the gold seal of the County Registrar. âYou lease this house. And your lease was held through an offshore holding entity named Alpine Ridge LLC.â
Judith stopped mid-sentence, her eyes narrowing. âWhat are you talking about?â
âAlpine Ridge LLC is a subsidiary of Vance Property Group,â I explained, sliding the master ownership document under the flashlight beam. âI own Vance Property Group. I am your landlord.â
Judithâs mouth opened, but no sound came out.
âSix months ago, when Brandon begged my daughter to marry him, he claimed his family owned this five-million-dollar estate,â I continued, my voice ice cold. âThe truth was, your family was three months behind on rent. I approved a lease extension under a blind trust because Emily believed Brandon was a good man.â
I pulled out a second documentâan Emergency Notice of Lease Termination and Immediate Eviction.
âPursuant to Section 14 of your commercial residential lease,â I told her, âcommission of a violent felony on the premises constitutes an immediate, non-curable breach. You have sixty minutes to pack your personal clothes and vacate my property.â
May you like
âSixty minutes?!â Judith shrieked. âItâs two in the morning! Itâs pouring rain!â
âThen I suggest you start packing,â I said, turning my back on her and walking toward my pickup truck. âBecause at three o'clock, my security team changes the locks.â
