Chapter 10 - A Safe HorizonOne year after that dark, rainy night.

The morning sun rose golden over a beautiful, quiet three-acre property overlooking a calm lake twenty miles outside the city.
In the center of the lawn stood a cozy, custom-built craftsman home with a wide wraparound porch, white pillars, and blooming rose gardens surrounding the steps.
Emily stood on the porch holding a cup of steaming coffee, watching the sunlight glisten off the water.
She had officially launched her own non-profit shelter foundationâThe Safe Haven Projectâfunded entirely by the liquidated assets recovered from Brandonâs fraud case and matched by my company. The foundation provided emergency housing and legal protection for women escaping domestic abuse.
I walked up the porch steps carrying a box of tools, wearing my favorite old denim jacket.
âDad!â Emily smiled, setting her coffee down and walking over to hug me. âYou didn't have to come out here to fix the porch latch today. The contractors could have done it.â
âContractors don't build things as strong as a dad does, sweetie,â I grinned, pulling out my screwdriver.

We sat together on the porch swing, listening to the birds singing in the tall pine trees around us.
The nightmare under the rain was finally over. The locks were changed, the fake empire was destroyed, and the daughter I loved more than life itself was finally, truly safe in her own home.
