Chapter 8 - The Nursery on the Second Floor

Over the next six months, the once-silent halls of my Greenwich manor were transformed into a sanctuary of life, laughter, and warmth.

The former guest suite on the second floor was completely remodeled into a state-of-the-art master nursery. The walls were painted in soft shades of warm cream and sage green, sunlight pouring through expansive bay windows overlooking the rose gardens.

In the center of the room stood a hand-carved white oak crib draped in soft linen blankets.

Leo was now seven months old—healthy, energetic, and chubby-cheeked. He had a thick mop of dark brown curls and his father's piercing, intelligent gray-blue eyes. He spent his mornings crawling across the plush wool rugs, giggling uncontrollably as he played with soft wooden building blocks.

Every afternoon after school, Lily would visit the manor, doing her homework in the library before running up to the nursery to read fairy tales to baby Leo.

I walked into the nursery, carrying a tray of fresh warm milk and oatmeal cookies, watching Lily sit on the rug with Leo on her lap.

"Look, Nathan!" Lily beamed, pointing proudly. "Leo just stood up holding the crib rail all by himself!"

"He did?" I smiled, setting the tray on the table and sitting on the floor beside them.

Leo turned, squealing with pure delight when he saw me. He let go of the railing, wobbled on his little feet, and took two clumsy, triumphant steps directly into my outstretched arms.

I scooped my son against my chest, lifting him high into the air as he laughed with pure, unrestrained joy.

"You're a strong boy, Leo," I murmured, kissing his soft forehead before wrapping my other arm around Lily’s shoulder.

My life, once defined by sterile boardroom victories and cold isolation, had finally found its true, eternal purpose.
