Chapter 6 - THE BLOOD SUGAR PLUNGE

As the minutes ticked by, my physical condition deteriorated rapidly. Without fast-acting insulin to process glucose, my blood sugar skyrocketed, crossing 300, then 350 mg/dL. Nausea curled in my stomach, my vision began to blur around the edges, and a heavy, pounding migraine settled behind my eyes.

Nora watched me swaying slightly against the doorway, her smile turning triumphant. “Starting to feel it, Leah? Time’s running out. Sit down and record the video.” I nodded weakly, shuffling toward the kitchen chair as if I had surrendered entirely. I needed to keep her distracted, keep her talking, and ensure that every single threat was permanently etched into the digital audio file uploading safely to Aunt Sophie’s phone across town.
