Chapter 9 - The ArrestI didn't argue back. I didn't raise my voice.

Instead, I pulled my department radio from my belt and keyed the microphone.
"Dispatch, this is Detective Miller. I need an immediate patrol unit and an investigator expedited to my residential address. Code three. I am placing an individual under citizen's detention for felony reckless endangerment and child abuse."
Karen’s eyes widened in absolute terror. "You wouldn't... David, I'm your wife! Think of our social standing! Think of what the department will say!"
"The department is going to watch you put on handcuffs," I replied coldly.
Within minutes, the sirens wailed down our quiet suburban street. Two patrol cruisers pulled up onto the gravel driveway, and my partner, Detective Sarah Jenkins, stepped out, her face grim as she walked through our front door.
I handed her the inhalers and the hidden medical logs.
"Read the prescription dates, Sarah," I instructed flatly. "She intentionally withheld life-saving asthma medication from my daughter."

Sarah looked at the evidence, then turned her gaze toward Karen with a dark, professional fury. "Karen Miller, you are under arrest."
As Sarah locked the steel cuffs around Karen's wrists and led her out past the neighbors watching from their lawns, the heavy oak front door closed, sealing off the nightmare.
