Chapter 10 - Breathing Easy AgainUpstairs in the nursery, Mia sat propped up against a mountain of pillows, breathing smoothly and deeply for the first time in months.

The color had finally returned to her cheeks. She held her blue rescue inhaler in her small hands, looking up at me with wide, trusting eyes.

"Daddy... do I still have to be scared?" she whispered, her voice fragile.

I sat down on the edge of her mattress, pulling her into a gentle, protective embrace.

"Never again, sweet girl," I promised, fighting back the thick lump in my throat. "Your medication is right here. Nobody will ever take it away from you again. Daddy's got you."

Dr. Sarah Evans, the pediatric specialist who had rushed over to examine Mia after the emergency call, stood quietly by the doorway, packing her medical bag with a reassuring smile.

"She's going to make a full recovery, Detective," Dr. Evans said softly. "The crisis has passed. But she will need a quiet, stable environment to heal emotionally."
