Chapter 11 - The Prosecutor's BriefTwo days later, at the downtown precinct office, I sat at my desk reviewing the official charging documents with Assistant District Attorney Julian Montgomery.

Julian leaned against my partition, flipping through the medical examiner's affidavit and pharmacy logs.

"The charge of felony child endangerment and intentional withholding of vital medication carries up to ten years," Julian said, his hazel eyes locking onto mine with steady professional support. "Given the documentation you recovered from her nightstand, Karen's defense team doesn't have a leg to stand on."

"Good," I replied, rubbing my tired eyes. "I want her prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Julian placed a supportive hand on my shoulder. "Take care of yourself, David. You can't pour from an empty cup. Mia needs her father whole."

"Thanks, Julian," I nodded, feeling a quiet sense of gratitude for the steady allies who had stood by me through the storm.
