Chapter 7 - The Boardroom TakeoverOn Monday morning at ten o'clock, the executive boardroom on the top floor of the Whitmore Tower in downtown Chicago was packed.

Uncle Richard sat at the head of the long mahogany table, flanked by high-priced corporate lawyers, board members, and a court-appointed magistrate ready to sign the final conservatorship transfer papers.

“Gentlemen,” Richard spoke, putting on a somber face. “It breaks my heart to sign these documents today. But my dear nephew Ethan is simply unable to manage his own affairs...”

Before the magistrate could touch his pen to the paper, the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom were thrown open.

Walking down the center aisle, wearing an immaculate black suit, his posture straight as steel, carrying a silver-handled cane for slight balance, was Ethan Whitmore.

Behind him, wearing an elegant cream-colored tailored suit, carrying a leather briefcase, walked Claire Bennett.

The entire boardroom erupted into wild shouts and gasps!

Board members scrambled out of their chairs! Richard dropped his gold pen, his mouth hanging open in complete, paralyzing horror.

“E-Ethan?!” Richard stuttered, his face draining of all color. “You... you can walk?!”

“I can walk, Uncle Richard,” Ethan declared, his voice resonant, powerful, and commanding total authority as he stopped at the foot of the table. “And I can read a balance sheet.”
