Chapter 9 - The Clearing of the DustWith the papers signed, the divorce was finalized with astonishing speed. Alejandro and Teresa pack up their few remaining belongings and left Mexico City, returning to a small, modest apartment in Querétaro—the very city where Mariana had started her journey.

Teresa’s grand illusions of high society were completely shattered. She no longer boasted to her neighbors about her "wealthy son." Instead, she spent her days keeping to herself, deeply embarrassed by the sudden turn of events. Alejandro was forced to take a low-level sales job at a local shipping company, earning a fraction of his former salary, starting from the very bottom of the ladder he had once assumed he owned.
Back in Lomas de Chapultepec, Mariana’s home was undergoing a transformation.
She had hired an interior designer to completely renovate the kitchen and the living areas. The heavy, dark wood and the old-fashioned decorations that Alejandro and Teresa had favored were stripped away. In their place came bright, open spaces, sleek modern lines, and beautiful large windows that let in the warm Mexican sun.
One sunny afternoon, Mariana stood in her newly renovated kitchen. The white marble island was spotless, and a beautiful bouquet of fresh white lilies sat in the center of the table.
Her phone buzzed with a notification. It was a video clip sent by Valeria from the office. It was a recording of Ruta Norte’s latest fleet of electric delivery trucks launching from their new distribution hub in Santa Fe. The company was thriving, its value doubling in the wake of the new expansion.
Mariana smiled, a deep, genuine sense of peace washing over her. She walked to her bedroom and opened her closet.
Hanging in the center of the wardrobe was a brand-new, stunning white silk dress. It was even more beautiful than the one Teresa had torn apart. But this time, it didn't represent a dinner she had to dress up for to impress others. It represented her freedom.
She pulled the dress from the hanger, slipped it on, and looked at herself in the mirror.
She was no longer the wife trying to manage a fragile man’s ego. She was Mariana Vance—founder, leader, and a woman who had successfully swept the dust of humiliation out of her life.

Just then, her doorbell rang.
She walked down the grand hallway, her heels clicking softly on the polished reflective floors. She opened the door to find her friends and her loyal executive team standing on the steps, carrying bottles of champagne and laughter. They had come to celebrate her official housewarming—the true beginning of her new chapter.
