Chapter 7 - The Growth of Hope

Over the next two years, my bond with Julian grew into the most beautiful, fulfilling partnership of my life.

Julian was everything Daniel had never been: deeply protective without being possessive, celebrating my business triumphs with honest pride, and honoring my boundaries with patient reverence. With Julian, there were no cold rules, no walking on eggshells, and no hidden agendas.

Vance Financial Cloud expanded rapidly, securing contracts with major regional banks and earning over $15 million in annual valuation.

I established the Phoenix Haven Initiative—a non-profit trust endowing $2 million annually to provide emergency legal representation, hidden security cameras, and transitional housing for domestic abuse survivors across the Rocky Mountain region.

On a warm, starlit evening in July, Julian and I hiked up to the summit overlook on Flagstaff Mountain.

The lights of Boulder and Denver sparkled in the valley below like a blanket of diamonds under a clear, purple night sky.

Julian turned to me, taking both of my hands into his, his eyes reflecting the starlight.

"Maya," Julian spoke, his deep voice thick with raw, honest devotion. "You took the darkest fire in this world and built a life of pure light and courage. I want to stand beside you, protect you, and cherish you for every single day of my life. Will you marry me?"

Julian knelt on the stone overlook, opening a small wooden box he had hand-carved from Colorado walnut.

Inside rested a stunning, three-carat emerald-cut diamond ring set in rose gold, flanked by two delicate mountain-blue sapphires.

Tears of pure, radiant joy spilled over my cheeks.

"Yes, Julian!" I whispered, throwing my arms around his neck as he stood. "A thousand times, yes!"

Julian lifted me off my feet, kissing me deeply beneath the Rocky Mountain stars as Atlas barked joyfully around our feet.
