Chapter 2 - The Breach

The sound of sirens grew with terrifying speed, echoing off the foothills of the gated subdivision.
Frank lowered the TV remote, his brow furrowing as flashing blue and red strobe lights illuminated the drawn living room blinds. "Daniel... what is that outside?"
"Probably private security checking the gate," Daniel dismissed, walking toward the window.
Before he could touch the blinds, the front double doors of the house were shattered off their hinges with a deafening concussive boom.
"Denver Police Department! Hands in the air! Nobody move!"
Six armed tactical officers in heavy ballistic vests swarmed through the entryway, assault rifles raised. Leading the strike team was Detective Chloe Parker, her badge flashing under the recessed lights, her sidearm drawn and locked onto Daniel.
Daniel froze, holding his hands up in stunned confusion. "Wait! What are you doing?! This is private property! I'm Daniel Mercer, CEO of Mercer Framing!"
"Daniel Mercer, get on the ground right now!" Detective Parker shouted with booming authority.
Linda dropped her wine glass, the crystal shattering across the hardwood as red wine splattered her cream trousers. "How dare you break into our home! My husband is on the city planning board!"
Two officers tackled Daniel to the floor, pinning his heavy frame against the tiles and wrenching his arms behind his back. Steel handcuffs clicked shut with brutal finality.
Detective Parker rushed into the kitchen, dropping to her knees beside me.
"Maya, I've got you," Chloe said softly, wrapping a sterile burn sheet around my trembling body. "The live stream captured the entire assault. Paramedics are right behind us."
Two paramedics rushed in with a trauma gurney, immediately applying specialized cooling hydrogel packs and administering high-dose intravenous pain relief.
As they lifted me onto the stretcher, Daniel looked at me from the floor, his face pale with sudden, horrified realization.
"You..." Daniel stammered, staring at the tiny camera lens glinting beneath the kitchen island. "You set me up!"
May you like
I looked down at the man who had terrorized me for eighteen months, feeling the last remaining drop of fear leave my soul.
"I didn't set you up, Daniel," I whispered, my voice steady and clear. "I just finally pressed record."
