Chapter 7 - The Prosecutor's VisitIn May, as the legal case against Victoria moved toward a grand jury indictment, I received an unexpected visitor at my home office.

A sleek black sedan pulled up our gravel driveway, and a tall man in a sharp charcoal suit stepped out. He introduced himself as Julian Montgomery, the senior special prosecutor assigned to felony domestic crimes for the county attorney's office.
"Mr. Mitchell," Julian said, shaking my hand firmly on the front porch. "I’m reviewing the final evidence packets for the upcoming trial against your estranged wife."
"Come on in, Mr. Montgomery," I invited, leading him into the sunlit living room where Clara and Lily were reading a storybook near the bay window.
Julian watched them for a quiet moment, his hazel eyes softening with profound understanding before turning back to me.
"The digital evidence your security system captured is airtight," Julian stated, opening his leather briefcase. "Between the video logs and the medical reports detailing Lily's prior trauma, Victoria's defense team has zero legal ground to stand on. She's facing a minimum of fifteen years in state penitentiary without parole."
"Good," I replied flatly. "She deserves every single day of it."

As Julian packed up his papers, he glanced toward Clara, who was gently helping Lily sound out words on a page. A warm, mutual glance passed between Julian and Clara—a subtle spark of recognition that did not escape my notice.
Over the coming weeks, as Julian made frequent trips to our home to review case documents with me, his visits naturally extended into long dinner conversations and quiet evening chats on the back patio.
