THE DEBT OF LIFE / Chapter 3 / 10

Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ConfrontationOn Tuesday afternoon, Ethan’s phone rang. It was an executive administrator from Northline.

"Mr. Walker, CEO Victoria Ashford has requested your presence at the annual shareholder meeting tomorrow morning. Your attendance is required."

Ethan was bewildered. Why would the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar tech conglomerate want to meet a rejected job applicant?

The next morning, Ethan arrived at Northline's penthouse executive floor. He was escorted into a massive boardroom surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering a panoramic view of the Chicago skyline. Twenty high-ranking board members and investors sat around a polished obsidian table.

At the head of the table sat Rebecca Collins, looking thoroughly unimpressed.

"I don't know why you were summoned, Mr. Walker," Rebecca muttered as he took a seat near the back. "This is a closed board meeting."

Before Ethan could answer, the double doors swung open, and CEO Victoria Ashford stepped into the room.
