THE DEBT OF LIFE / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - A Life TransformedSix months later.

The sun shone brightly over a beautiful public park near Lake Michigan. Lily ran across the grass, laughing happily as her pink dress fluttered in the warm breeze. Her cheeks were full of color, her energy limitless, her heart stronger than ever thanks to the top medical care she had received.

Ethan sat on a park bench watching her, a peaceful smile resting on his face. He wore a crisp, tailored suit—no longer borrowed or ironed out of desperation, but fitting him like a glove.

Footsteps approached along the paved path. Victoria walked up, carrying two iced coffees and wearing a comfortable summer dress. She sat beside Ethan, handing him a cup.

"How is our brilliant VP enjoying his weekend off?" Victoria teased softly.

"It's incredible," Ethan replied, turning to look at her. "Lily asks about you every day, you know. She considers you her hero."

Victoria laughed softly, looking out at the little girl playing in the distance. "I think we both know who the real hero is in this story."

As Lily ran over to show them a bright yellow flower she had picked, Ethan wrapped his arm around his daughter, locking eyes with Victoria. The dark days of struggle were finally behind them, replaced by a bright horizon of health, security, and a deep bond that had begun on a smoky highway.
