Chapter 10 - A Home of Her OwnOne year later.

The summer sun shone bright over a beautiful two-story townhouse in Kensington, London—a property Daniel and I had purchased together, decorated with warm wood, soft linen, and modern art.

On the kitchen counter sat the cobalt-blue Dutch oven—I had bought an identical one for myself, using it to bake fresh sourdough bread for our weekend dinners.

My phone chimed with a text message from Brooke. She had sent a photograph of her newborn baby, along with a quiet, humble message:

BROOKE: I'm sorry for everything, Clara. I wish you were here to meet your niece.

I looked at the photograph for a long moment. I didn't feel anger anymore. I felt a calm, healthy distance—the boundary of a woman who had finally learned her own worth.

I typed a soft, polite reply wishing her well, set the phone down on the counter, and turned back to Daniel, who was pouring two glasses of red wine.

“To new beginnings,” Daniel toasted, looking into my eyes with deep, unconditional love.

“To knowing who you are,” I smiled, clinking my glass against his.

The distant whispers across the Atlantic could no longer reach me. The daughter who had been erased had built her own bright, unshakeable world—and this time, she was the heroine of her own story.
