Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

At 9:00 AM the next morning, the glass-walled headquarters of Harrington Luxe was buzzing with its usual corporate energy. Graham Harrington walked through the lobby, his chest puffed out, nodding arrogantly to the receptionists. He was wearing a custom Italian suit, his hair perfectly coiffed, looking like a man who had successfully erased his past.

He took the elevator to the executive floor, heading straight for the boardroom where the quarterly sales meeting was scheduled to begin.

Vivian was already sitting at the head of the mahogany table, looking regal in a tailored tweed suit. "Graham," she smiled, pouring herself a cup of coffee. "Did you ensure that girl signed the divorce waiver?"

"She’ll sign it, Mother," Graham laughed, sitting down and opening his tablet. "She has no money, no lawyer, and two newborns to feed. She'll sign whatever we put in front of her just to get enough money for formula."

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.

I walked in.

I was no longer wearing the oversized sweaters or the simple jeans they were used to. I wore a tailored, midnight-blue power suit, my hair swept back in a flawless, professional bun. Behind me walked Marcus and a team of six federal forensic auditors carrying heavy black briefcases.

Graham laughed, leaning back in his leather chair. "Evelyn? How did you even get past security? Did you crawl back here to beg for a handout?"

Vivian sneered, waving her hand dismissively. "Call security. Remove this trash from my building immediately."

"Actually, Vivian," Marcus stepped forward, sliding a certified legal document across the table. "This building doesn't belong to you. And neither does this company. As of midnight, Vale International Holdings has acquired all outstanding debts of Harrington Luxe, converting them into equity. Ms. Evelyn Vale is now the sole proprietor and chairperson of the board."

The laughter died in Graham’s throat. He stared at the document, his face turning a sickly, pale green.
