Chapter 4 - The Mole Within
Dominic’s top enforcer, Marcus, slammed a dossier onto the steel table in the subterranean security room. The digital logs confirmed what Dominic already suspected: the front doors had been unlocked from the inside using a high-level override code. The trail led straight to Carl Bennett, Sadie's catering manager, who had vanished into the Philadelphia night right after the attack. “Carl sold us out to the Morales family,” Marcus reported grimly. “He took twenty grand to let their heavy hitter into the building.” Dominic’s eyes narrowed into cold slits. The Morales family had been trying to squeeze him out of the downtown docks for months, and now they had targeted a private dinner party, using a hired brute and an internal traitor. But what worried Dominic more was Carl’s sudden disappearance—and the fact that Carl knew Sadie had been working the room when the hit went down. If Carl was running scared, he might view Sadie as a loose end or a witness who could identify him. “Find Carl before they do,” Dominic commanded. “And double the security detail guarding Sadie Miller at her apartment. She doesn't know it yet, but she’s caught right in the middle of our war.”
