THE CHRISTMAS EVE STRANGER / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - A New DawnOne year later. Christmas Eve.

Route 9 was quiet under a blanket of fresh, white snow.

A sleek new SUV pulled over onto the shoulder near the exact spot where Teresa had been stranded twelve months ago.

The door opened, and Ramón stepped out, dressed in a handsome charcoal coat. He walked around to the passenger side and opened the door for Teresa, who looked stunning in a deep red winter coat.

From the back seat, seven-year-old Bella giggled, wearing a warm hat with plush reindeer ears. “Is this where you met Daddy, Teresa?”

“It sure is, sweetheart,” Teresa smiled, looking around at the serene, snowy landscape. “Right here in the dark.”

Ramón took Teresa’s hand, lacing his fingers through hers. He pulled a small velvet box from his coat pocket and knelt down on the snow-dusted asphalt.

Teresa’s hands flew to her mouth, tears sparkling in her eyes.

“One year ago, I found you stranded on this road,” Ramón said, his voice rich with emotion. “I thought I was just helping a stranger. I didn't know you were going to save my life, my shop, and my family. You brought light back into our world, Teresa.”

He opened the box, revealing a classic solitaire diamond ring.

“Will you marry me and make our family whole?”

“Yes!” Teresa cried, laughing through her tears as she dropped to her knees to wrap her arms around his neck.

Ramón lifted her up, kissing her deeply under the falling snow, while Bella cheered and clapped from the back of the car.
