Chapter 5 - The Audit of the TrustWhile Daniel was being escorted out of the luxury resort onto the streets of CancĂșn, Margaret Sloan and a team of forensic accountants sat in my study.

We spent three days auditing every bank statement, credit line, and property transaction Daniel had executed over the past three years.
The findings were staggering.
Daniel hadn't just used my household cards for groceries. He had siphoned over six hundred thousand dollars from my secondary trust accounts to pay off Kendraâs credit card debts, purchase a luxury sports car, and invest in a failed cryptocurrency scheme!
In addition, we discovered that he had forged my signature on a loan application, attempting to leverage my estate as collateral for a two-million-dollar commercial line of credit!
âThis is grand larceny, elder abuse, and identity fraud, Evelyn,â Margaret stated, setting the thick audit report in front of me. âHe didn't just abandon you. He was systematically liquidating your life while keeping you prisoner upstairs.â
I looked at the forged signatures on the documentsâsignatures he had made while telling me he was taking care of my bills.

Tears of sorrow welled in my eyes, but they quickly burned away into cold, unshakeable resolve.
âFile criminal charges with the District Attorney, Margaret,â I commanded softly. âAnd tell the security guards to prepare for his return.â
