Chapter 4 - The CancĂșn DeclinesTwo thousand miles away, at the five-star Gran Riviera Resort in CancĂșn, Mexico.

Daniel stood at the marble front desk, holding two crystal glasses of champagne, smiling at the receptionist while Kendra snapped selfies by the palm trees.

“That will be four thousand two hundred dollars for the oceanfront suite upgrade, sir,” the resort clerk smiled, sliding the credit card machine forward.

Daniel handed over the black household credit card.

DECLINED — ERROR CODE 403: ACCOUNT FROZEN BY TRUSTEE.

Daniel frowned, his smile faltering. “Try it again. Must be a system glitch.”

The clerk swiped it again. DECLINED.

Kendra walked over, her smile disappearing. “Daniel, what’s taking so long? The cabana is waiting.”

Daniel pulled out his personal debit card—the one linked to his monthly allowance from my estate.

DECLINED — ACCOUNT PERMANENTLY TERMINATED.

Panic began to claw at Daniel’s chest. He pulled out his phone, opening his mobile banking app, only to see a flashing red alert across the screen:
