Chapter 9 - The Vow on the Ocean Terrace

Six months later, on a breathtaking, sun-drenched Saturday in June, the ocean terrace of Rinaldi Manor was transformed into a fairy tale of cascading white roses, blooming hydrangeas, and glowing crystal chandeliers.
Over three hundred guests—family friends, business executives, and community leaders—gathered under the clear azure sky overlooking Long Island Sound.
A live string orchestra played softly as the procession began.
Walking down the rose-petal-strewn aisle as the groomsmen and flower girls were Marco, Nico, Matteo, Sofia, and Lucia, dressed in matching cream linen suits and blush-pink silk dresses, their faces glowing with immense, unburdened joy.
Then, the terrace archway opened.
I walked down the stone aisle wearing a custom-tailored ivory lace gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a cathedral-length veil that caught the gentle ocean breeze.
Victor stood at the altar, looking at me with a look of such profound, breathtaking adoration that tears pricked my eyes.
When I reached his side, he took my trembling hand, lifting my veil with infinite gentleness.
"Serena," Victor spoke, his deep baritone resonant with truth. "You walked through my gates on a stormy night, carrying thirty-six dollars in your pocket and an ocean of courage in your heart. You broke the silence of my home, healed my children's grief, and gave me an empire of love. I vow to stand as your shield, your partner, and your eternal protector for all the days of my life."

"Victor," I replied, my voice sweet and clear. "You gave my daughter a fortress of safety and gave me a love that is pure, brave, and unshakeable. You taught our children that a true family is built on honor, sacrifice, and devotion. I am yours, completely and forever."
When the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, Victor wrapped his strong arms around my waist, lifting me off my feet as he kissed me beneath the warm summer sun, while our five children cheered and clapped with pure delight.
