Chapter 9 - BREACHING THE SANCTUARY

An hour later, Matteo’s black sedan pulled up a hundred yards from the abandoned warehouse specified in the note. The building stood surrounded by rusted shipping containers and overgrown weeds, casting long shadows in the fading afternoon light. Matteo killed the engine, turning to Lena in the passenger seat. “Stay in the car, lock the doors, and if I’m not back in thirty minutes, call federal agent Miller on the encrypted line.”
“Be careful, Matteo,” she whispered, leaning over the center console to kiss his cheek.

Matteo stepped out into the chill wind, moving with silent, lethal grace toward the rusted sliding metal door of the warehouse. He didn't bother knocking; he kicked the side panel inward with a deafening crash, instantly rolling across the concrete floor as three suppressed firearms opened fire from the rafters above.
Bullets chipped against the concrete pillars, sending up sharp plumes of dust. Matteo returned fire with cool, calculated precision, neutralizing the sniper perched on the iron catwalk with two rapid shots. As the remaining enforcers scrambled behind wooden crates, shouting in panic, Matteo advanced through the shadows like an apex predator reclaiming his domain.
