Six months later, The Last Light Diner reopened with a newly remodeled front dining room and a packed house of loyal regulars. The sun streamed warmly through the spotless glass windows, catching on the polished tile floor where no trace of the past violence remained.
Lena stood behind the counter, pouring a fresh cup of black coffee with a steady, confident smile, while Jimmy hummed happily beside the grill. At his usual booth in the corner, Matteo sat reading the morning newspaper, sipping his coffee and keeping a watchful, loving eye on his wife.
The underworld whispers had long since faded into silence, replaced by the quiet, beautiful rhythm of ordinary life. Matteo looked up, catching Lena’s eye across the crowded room.
