Chapter 8 - The Laundry Room Humiliation

The psychological cruelty escalated further the following afternoon in the estate's sprawling service laundry room. Eleanor was standing over a large basin, manually washing delicate garments, when Khloe marched in carrying a massive wicker basket overflowing with clothes.

Without a word of warning, Khloe dumped the entire load across the marble counter, spilling garments in every direction. Standing beside her was one of her closest friends, both women dressed in high-end evening wear, watching the elderly maid with amused grins.

“Everything in this basket needs to be hand-washed right now,” Khloe commanded coldly, crossing her arms. She pointed mockingly toward the pile while her friend burst into sharp, mocking laughter, pointing directly at Eleanor's stooped figure.

Eleanor paused, her hands resting in the soapy water. She looked up slowly, meeting Khloe’s gleeful, arrogant gaze.

“People like you should just be grateful you have a roof over your heads and work to keep you busy,” Khloe mocked loudly, turning to her friend to share a delighted laugh over the public degradation.

For the first time, Eleanor felt a wave of profound disappointment wash over her. It wasn't just anger at the insult; it was a deep sorrow knowing that this was the person her beloved son had chosen to share his life with. But what Khloe didn't realize was that hidden inside the pocket of Eleanor’s service apron was a high-fidelity digital recorder capturing every single word.
