Chapter 3 - Disguised in Her Own Mansion

The transformation was absolute. Gone were the tailored designer suits, the multi-million-dollar diamond jewelry, and the private security detail that usually cleared her path. Dressed in a simple, faded grey service uniform with a plain head covering, Eleanor walked through the massive wrought-iron front gates of her own estate as a stranger.

She stepped into the sweeping marble hallways she had personally designed decades ago—halls where powerful CEOs had once waited days just for a five-minute meeting with her. But this morning, none of the staff or residents looked past the surface. They saw an elderly maid, nothing more.

Khloe was lounging near the grand staircase, holding a porcelain cup of artisan coffee when she first noticed Eleanor standing quietly near the service entrance.

“Why are you just standing there staring into space?” Khloe asked sharply, her tone instantly dripping with casual condescension. “The marble floors aren't going to clean themselves, you know.”

Eleanor kept her head lowered, consciously adopting the posture of a subservient worker. “I’ll take care of it right away, ma’am,” she replied in a quiet, steady voice, concealing the fierce storm of judgment brewing behind her eyes.

Khloe sneered slightly, taking a sip of her coffee. “See that you do. And make sure you actually put some effort into it this time. People in your position always try to cut corners.”
