THE ARCHIVED TRUTH / Chapter 4 / 10

Chapter 4 - Unearthing the Archived TruthDetermined to find the truth, Caroline spent the next forty-eight hours buried in the company’s physical archive vault in the basement of headquarters—a place unreached by digital server wipes. Joined by her loyal head of legal, David Frankel, she sifted through boxes of paper records from the month she assumed leadership.

Deep within the steel filing cabinets of the Genesis project, David pulled a thick yellow folder stamped RESTRICTED.

"Caroline, look at this," David said, setting the paper under the desk lamp.

It was the original termination order for Project Genesis. The document cited "insufficient efficacy and high adverse risk." At the bottom rested Caroline’s electronic signature.

"It’s my signature," Caroline whispered, a cold wave of nausea washing over her.

"Look closer at the timestamp," David noted, pointing to the bottom margin. "This authorization was logged at four a.m. on October twelfth, three years ago. You were in Tokyo for the international medical summit on that date."
