Chapter 10 - The Foundation of FamilyOne year later.

The Mercer Island estate was no longer a quiet, echoing museum of glass and stone. Toys lined the hallway, the kitchen smelled of freshly baked cinnamon pastries, and the large dining room was alive with warmth.

Elias had expanded his construction firm, taking on historic restoration projects across the city, while Caroline led Hayes Medical Innovations into its most successful, community-focused era.

On a warm summer afternoon, the three of them sat on the grassy lawn overlooking the water. Lily was chasing butterflies near the flowerbeds, laughing aloud in the bright sunshine.

Elias turned to Caroline, taking her hand—no longer bound by a contract or a prenuptial clause, but by a quiet, deep, and unwavering love.

"You know," Elias said with a slight smile, "the one-year contract expired yesterday."

Caroline looked at him, her eyes soft and full of peace. "Did it?"

"It did," Elias whispered, drawing her close and kissing her gently under the clear sky. "Which means I'm going to have to ask you to marry me for real this time."

Caroline smiled, resting her head against his chest as they watched their daughter play. "Only if it's forever."
