Chapter 7 - The Secret SisterTwo days later, Clara and I sat together in the sunroom of my new, secure apartment overlooking the park.

For the first time in ten years, Clara was wearing her own clothes, eating fresh fruit, and looking out at the sky without bars on her windows.

“How did you find me, Evelyn?” Clara asked, her voice quiet and filled with wonder. “My mother paid those asylum doctors millions to keep my identity completely scrubbed.”

I smiled, handing her a folder containing the original financial records I had pulled from Adrian’s private ledger.

“When I found the forged loan guarantees under my name,” I explained, “I started digging into Vale Meridian’s historical transactions from ten years ago. I noticed a monthly recurring wire transfer of forty thousand dollars going to a private medical holding company in Zurich.”

“The asylum,” Clara nodded.

“The wire transfers were categorized as 'consulting fees,'” I continued. “I used my forensic software to trace the ultimate beneficial owner of that Swiss holding company. It led straight to a bank account controlled exclusively by Celeste. When I cross-referenced the dates with your disappearance ten years ago, I realized you weren't dead—you were being hidden.”

Clara reached across the table, taking my hands in hers. Her eyes filled with tears.

“You saved my life, Evelyn,” she whispered. “You went through hell with that monster just to get enough evidence to pull me out of that place.”

“We saved each other, Clara,” I said softly. “Now it’s time we take back what they stole from you.”
