Chapter 10 - A Legacy ReclaimedSix months after the trial.

The golden afternoon sun reflected off the glass windows of the newly renamed Clara Vale Foundation for Forensic Justice headquarters downtown.

The company—formerly Vale Meridian Holdings—had been completely restructured under court supervision. Through legal restitution, Clara had been restored as the rightful majority shareholder and CEO, while I was appointed as the Chief Forensic Officer and head of the foundation’s investigative board.

Our foundation’s mission was simple: using advanced forensic accounting to expose corporate domestic abuse, financial coercion, and hidden offshore asset fraud across the country.

On a bright autumn afternoon, Clara and I stood on the top-floor terrace of our corporate building, looking out over the city skyline.

A large crowd of employees, federal partners, and media reporters filled the room behind us, celebrating the official launch of our first nationwide assistance program for survivors of domestic violence.

Victoria Vance walked out onto the terrace, handing us two glasses of sparkling water.

“To freedom,” Victoria smiled, raising her glass.

“To freedom,” Clara echoed, her face radiant with happiness and strength.

I took a slow sip, watching the sunset cast brilliant shades of gold and orange across the sky.

The bruises on my skin had long since healed, leaving behind no scars. The wedding gown I had stripped away at the altar was now just a distant piece of evidence locked in a federal locker.

I looked down at my hands—strong, steady, and entirely my own.

I had entered Adrian Vale’s world as a target. I had left it as his executioner. And as the city lights began to twinkle beneath the evening sky, I knew that no shadow, no lie, and no locked door would ever diminish my light again.
