SILENT SOIL, LETHAL TRUTH / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - The Bloom on the OceanTwo years after the rescue, I stood on the grassy coastal bluff overlooking the roaring Pacific Ocean.

The sky was painted in breathtaking shades of crimson and gold as the sun slowly dipped beneath the horizon. Around us stood my close friends—Detective Susan Vance (who had recently been promoted to Police Captain), Sarah Lin, David, and little Lily, who was happily picking yellow wildflowers near our feet.

Captain Vance walked over, holding a glass of sparkling cider, looking out at the endless ocean horizon.

"Hard to believe it’s been two years, Hannah," Vance said softly, her eyes filled with deep, genuine respect. "You took a nightmare that would have destroyed most people and turned it into a sanctuary for hundreds of women."

"The dirt didn't break me, Susan," I answered, looking down at my hands—hands that were no longer trembling, no longer buried, but strong and free. "It just showed me what I was capable of protecting."

David stepped up beside me, wrapping his arm comfortably around my waist, his fingers interlocking with mine. Lily ran back toward us, proudly holding up a bright yellow wildflower she had just picked from the cliffside.

"Mommy, look!" Lily cheered, her voice full of pure, unbridled light. "It grew right near the edge!"

I knelt down, pulling my daughter tight against my heart, smelling the clean ocean air trapped in her hair.

There were no more dark backyard graves. No more secret recordings. No more fear of greedy monsters lurking in the shadows. The past was locked away behind iron bars across the state, while our future stretched out wide, vast, and beautiful like the endless ocean before us.

They thought they had buried me in the dark dirt.

They forgot that I was a seed.

I stood up, holding my daughter close in the warm evening light, and walked forward into a life filled with endless light, boundless love, and unbreakable peace.

"They buried her in the dark earth to steal her future, forgetting that a mother's love is a seed that rises through any dirt to shatter the monsters in the light."
