Chapter 10 - The Light That Shatters DarknessOne year after the night in the bathroom.

The sun was setting over Lake Champlain, casting a breathtaking golden glow across the calm water.
I stood on the wide wooden porch of our new lakefront home, holding a warm cup of chamomille tea. The cool autumn breeze blew gently through the pine trees, carrying the sweet scent of damp earth and crisp leaves.
Beside me stood Vincent, wrapping his large, warm arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin comfortably against my shoulder as we watched the sunset together.
My left hand—completely healed, strong, and flexible—rested over his hands on my waist. On my ring finger sparkled a simple, breathtaking diamond band—a symbol of a love anchored in absolute devotion, trust, and unshakeable strength.
"What are you thinking about, Lena?" Vincent asked softly, kissing my neck.
I turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, loving eyes—eyes that had once terrified an entire city, but now held only profound tenderness for me.
"I'm thinking about that night," I answered truthfully, a soft, peaceful smile gracing my lips. "I'm thinking about the moment I picked up that black card and dialed your number."
Vincent held me closer against his chest, his fingers interlocking with mine.
"That call didn't just save your life, Lena," Vincent whispered, his voice thick with genuine emotion. "It saved mine. You gave me a reason to walk out of the dark."
I leaned up, pressing my lips gently against his—a long, sweet kiss filled with healing, gratitude, and an infinite promise of a bright future together.
They had tried to tell me I was a broken waitress with no hope. Marcus had thought he could step over my body and lock me in the dark forever. But they had forgotten one fundamental, eternal truth: light does not ask permission from the dark to shine, and when a woman finds a protector who loves her with his whole soul, she becomes completely invincible.

I held my husband’s hand tight, looked out over the sparkling, golden waters of the lake, and walked forward into a life filled with endless light, absolute freedom, and unbreakable love.
"He thought he had broken a helpless woman in the dark, unaware that one phone call would bring the king of the city to destroy his world."
