Chapter 6 - The Black BoxThe massive screens above the boardroom table flickered to life.

High-definition video and crystal-clear audio filled the silent room.
“Turn off the epidural.” Cameron’s voice echoed through the boardroom speakers with terrifying clarity.
Several board members gasped, turning their heads to stare at Cameron in utter horror.
On the screen, the entire incident played out in brutal detail: Sophie digging her nails into my arm, the medication tray falling, Cameron dismissing my pleas, and the horrifying moment the steel bed rail snapped in my hands as my vitals crashed.
“If you put that much effort into pushing instead of making a spectacle,” Cameron’s recorded voice sneered on the screens, “our son would already be here.”
Dr. Arthur Vance, the Board Chairman, slammed his hands onto the table, his face red with rage. “My God... Cameron... you deliberately withheld pain management and denied an indicated C-section out of personal malice?!”
“It... it was a high-stress situation!” Cameron stammered, sweating profusely, looking frantically at his lawyer. “I made a mistake!”
“That wasn't a mistake, Cameron,” I stated, stepping closer to the screen. “That was attempted murder.”
I tapped the remote again.
The screen shifted from the delivery room video to a series of banking flowcharts, pharmacy inventory logs, and encrypted text messages between Cameron and Sophie.
“Over the past six months,” I revealed, my voice ringing across the silent room like a hammer, “Dr. Bennett and Intern Sophie Reed diverted four hundred and twenty thousand dollars worth of controlled substances from our pharmacy, using forged patient charts to cover the missing stock.”
Sophie jumped out of her chair. “That's a lie! He forced me! Cameron threatened to fail my internship if I didn't sign those forms!”
“You lying bitch!” Cameron screamed, turning on her, grabbing her by her collar. “You were the one who set up the offshore account in the Bahamas!”
“Silence!” Dr. Vance roared.
The two plainclothes officers from the Attorney General’s office stepped forward, unholstering two sets of steel handcuffs.
“Cameron Bennett and Sophie Reed,” the lead officer declared firmly. “You are under arrest for federal drug trafficking, grand larceny, corporate fraud, and aggravated assault with deadly intent.”
The metallic snap-snap of handcuffs locking around Cameron’s wrists echoed through the boardroom.
As the officers dragged a screaming, pleading Cameron past my chair, he looked at me with eyes full of pathetic, desperate terror.
“Amelia! Please!” Cameron sobbed. “Think of our son! Don't do this to me!”

I looked into his eyes, my face an unreadable mask of absolute, untouchable power.
“My son doesn't have a father named Cameron Bennett,” I whispered softly. “He only has a mother who survived you.”
