ROADSIDE PROMISES / Chapter 7 / 10

Chapter 7 - Confronting the TruthBy Friday morning, news of the impending foreclosure had spread through Crestfall. The local townspeople—farmers, shopkeepers, and neighbors whom Mason had helped over the years—gathered outside Carter’s Auto Repair in a quiet show of solidarity.

Isabella worked tirelessly beside Mason, swapping her designer clothes for denim and boots as she helped him organize decades of repair records to prove continuous business operations.

Emma took an instant liking to Isabella, sitting on the garage floor with her, showing her drawing books and teaching her how to identify different wrench sizes.

“Do you like my dad?” Emma asked innocently while Mason was under a truck frame.

Isabella blushed, looking over at Mason’s oil-stained back. “I think your dad is the bravest man I’ve ever met, Emma.”

“He cried when my mom died,” Emma said quietly. “But he told me angels always watch over us. I think you look like an angel.”

Mason stepped out from beneath the truck, hearing his daughter’s words. His eyes met Isabella’s, and a deep, electric charge filled the room. For the first time in years, Mason felt a spark of hope—not just for his garage, but for his heart.
