Chapter 10 - The Road Back to UsSix months later.

The spring sun shone bright over Crestfall, turning the mountain peaks green and alive.

The attempted hostile takeover by Laurent International had made national headlines, resulting in Richard Sterling’s arrest for corporate fraud and attempted theft. With the original deed verified, the court officially declared Mason Carter the sole, permanent owner of the land.

In addition, Isabella used her restored executive power as CEO to reorganize Laurent International, launching a major community development fund that protected small family businesses across Montana.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the front doors of Carter’s Auto Repair were wide open. The shop had been completely renovated with modern equipment, courtesy of a fair business partnership between Mason and the town council.

In the backyard behind the shop, a celebratory barbecue was in full swing. Neighbors chatted near the picnic tables while Emma ran through the grass with a new puppy, laughing under the clear blue sky.

Mason stood near the edge of the yard, wearing a clean shirt, looking out at the mountains.

Isabella walked up beside him in a simple yellow summer dress, her dark hair catching the warm sunlight. She slid her hand into his, lacing her fingers with his calloused palm.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked gently, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Mason looked down at her, a deep, genuine smile lighting up his face—a smile that had been absent for ten long years.

“I’m thinking about how I almost drove past your car that night,” Mason whispered, pulling her close by the waist.

“I’m glad your truck has good headlights,” she teased softly, looking up into his blue eyes.

“It wasn’t the headlights, Isabella,” Mason said softly, leaning down to kiss her passionately under the warm Montana sun. “It was you. It was always you.”

Emma came running over, hugging both of their legs, her bright laughter filling the mountain air. The long winter had finally passed, and on this mountain road, the broken promises of the past had finally brought them home.
