Chapter 11 - Building a New BastionLife inside the estate was a masterclass in peace and healing. Freed from the toxic emotional quicksand of my family, my health flourished. The medical specialists assigned by the defense contract monitored my pregnancy with absolute precision, ensuring both my baby and I were thriving.

The nursery in the new estate was breathtaking—not the soft pastels I had painted before, but a sanctuary of warm mahogany, soft golden lighting, and shelves lined with books, military memorabilia left behind by Michael’s comrades, and framed photographs of my husband smiling in his dress blues.

Every evening, I would sit in the comfortable rocking chair by the window, placing my hands on my stomach, talking softly to my child. "Your daddy was a great man, little one," I whispered into the quiet room. "He built a shield to protect soldiers on the battlefield. And because of him, we are safe. No one will ever make you feel small or unwanted. I promise you that."

My relationship with Michael’s former military family—his parents living in Ohio—blossomed. When I called them to share the news of Project Orion and the baby, his mother wept tears of pure joy on the phone. "Michael would be so proud of you, Sarah," she choked out. "You carried his vision across the finish line." Within a week, they packed their bags and moved into a lovely guest cottage on the estate grounds, becoming a warm, loving anchor for me and my upcoming baby.
