Chapter 8 - The Eviction NoticeBy the end of the month, the Whispering Pines estate was completely silent.

The grand, high-ceilinged rooms that had once echoed with Daniel’s arrogant shouts and Judith’s passive-aggressive remarks were now filled with the warm, peaceful sound of classical music. The heavy, dark drapes had been replaced with light, airy linen that let the bright summer sun flood the marble floors.
I stood in the foyer, watching a team of professional movers carry out the last of Daniel’s personal belongings. His expensive golf clubs, his designer suits, and his collection of luxury watches were loaded into the back of a van, destined for a storage unit he could no longer afford.

"Are you ready to sign the final papers, Julia?" Sarah asked, walking into the foyer with a folder.
"More than ready, Sarah," I said, taking the pen with my left hand.
I signed the divorce decree, permanently severing my connection to Daniel Vance. Under the terms of the settlement, he forfeited any claim to my assets, my estate, and my trust. He was leaving our marriage with absolutely nothing but a mountain of legal debt and a pending federal trial.
