Chapter 6 - Judith’s Last StandJudith Vance did not go quietly.

On Thursday morning, she showed up at my front gates, accompanied by a local news camera crew she had managed to manipulate by playing the victimized elderly mother.
"My son is an innocent man!" Judith wept into the microphone, her silver hair perfectly styled despite her supposed distress. "His wife is a cold, calculating woman who is using her wealth to destroy our family! She’s locked him up and thrown me onto the streets!"
I watched the live broadcast from my tablet in the study. Sarah Jenkins stood beside me, her phone already in her hand.
"Should I call the police for a restraining order violation, Julia?" Sarah asked.
"No," I said, standing up. "Let's give them the show they want."
I walked down the long gravel driveway, my arm still held secure in its blue sling. The camera crew immediately turned toward me, the reporter rushing forward with a microphone.
"Mrs. Vance! Your mother-in-law claims you are framing your husband for assault. What do you have to say to that?"
I stopped a few feet from Judith, who glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom beneath her painted tears.
"I have this," I said, pulling out my phone and turning on a portable Bluetooth speaker.
I pressed play. Judith’s own voice echoed through the quiet suburban street, loud and clear:
“My son taught her a lesson. She thought she was in charge. To knowing your place.”
Then came Daniel’s voice, cold and threatening: “Maybe now you’ll stop interfering in family decisions, Julia.”
The reporter stared at me, his mouth slightly open. The camera operator lowered his lens, looking at Judith with a mixture of shock and disgust.
"My husband broke my arm because I wouldn't let him steal eighty thousand dollars of my inheritance," I said, looking directly into the camera lens. "My mother-in-law and his sister laughed about it at my dinner table while I couldn't even feed myself. If anyone is a victim here, it is not Judith Vance."
Judith’s face turned an ugly, dark shade of purple. She tried to lung toward me, but Sarah stepped in front of her, holding up her phone.

"The police are already on their way, Mrs. Vance," Sarah said. "And this footage will be added to the harassment charge."
Without another word, Judith spun around and fled down the street, her cheap drama completely exposed to the entire city.
