Six months later, Elena walked into the county superior court with steady steps, holding her head high. Dressed in a navy suit, she commanded the courtroom with quiet, unshakeable strength.
The judge showed no leniency. Michael was sentenced to thirty-five years in state prison without the possibility of early parole. Evelyn received twenty years for conspiracy and aggravated assault, while Mara was remanded to a state rehabilitation facility with probation after cooperating fully with the state.
The court officially annulled the marriage, stripped Michael of all parental and financial claims, and restored Elena’s full, unencumbered ownership of her grandmother’s estate. When the gavel struck the sound block for the final time, the nightmare that had held Elena captive was officially terminated by law.
