Chapter 6 - The Breach

Before Michael could react, the quiet night erupted into chaos. Powerful tactical spotlights flooded the backyard, turning the darkness into blinding white noon. Heavy boots crashed through the side gates as armed officers and K-9 units swarmed the property.
"Police! Hands where we can see them! On the ground now!"
Evelyn screamed from the porch, dropping her tea glass as two deputies moved up the steps, immediately placing her and a sobbing Mara in handcuffs.
Michael stood paralyzed for a second, staring at the blazing headlights in his driveway. In a blind panic, he took a step toward the fence, but an officer tackled him directly onto the grass, pinning his arms behind his back. The metal clicks of the handcuffs echoed across the yard as he was forcefully read his rights, his facade of domestic control completely shattered in seconds.
