Chapter 5 - The Rescue

Light flooded down the dark cellar stairwell.
Framed in the shattered doorway stood a tall silhouette dressed in a sharp black suit and crisp white shirt, holding a tactical service pistol with steady, lethal precision.
It was Julian Sterling—my father’s former head of corporate security and the only man my father had trusted with our family's contingency directives. Julian had spent the last three weeks tracking Marcus's forged transactions and tracing the unauthorized contractor permits on our estate.
"Drop your weapons! Step away from the cage!" Julian’s deep voice roared through the basement, echoing with absolute authority.
Marcus spun around, raising his handgun, while Brett and Beatrice shrieked in panic, pointing frantically at the doorway.
BANG.
Julian fired a single, precise shot that shattered the concrete pillar inches from Marcus’s hand, sending the gun flying across the floor. Marcus collapsed against the wall, clutching his bruised wrist, terrified into submission. Brett sank to his knees with his hands over his head, while Beatrice backed against the shelving units, hyperventilating as armed federal marshals stormed down the stairs behind Julian.

"Clara!" Julian yelled, rushing across the room and dropping his weapon onto the holster to inspect the welded cage.
"Julian! Get the baby out!" I screamed, clutching the wire mesh with bloodied fingers as another wave of labor pain seized my body.
