Chapter 10 - The Light of DawnThe sun was setting over the Enchanted Rock natural reserve in the Texas Hill Country, painting the vast sky in breathtaking hues of violet, rose, and brilliant liquid gold.

Caleb and I stood at the summit, the cool evening breeze gently blowing through my hair. Beside us, Marcus and his new partner were laughing, setting up a picnic blanket under the shade of a ancient oak tree.
I held my hand up against the evening sky. My body bore scars—long, faint pale lines across my chest—but those scars no longer represented pain, shame, or survival. They were my armor. They were proof that I had faced the darkest, most cruel fires of human betrayal and emerged not broken, but forged into pure gold.
Caleb wrapped his arms gently around my waist from behind, resting his chin softly on my shoulder.
“What are you thinking about, my love?” Caleb whispered into the evening breeze.
I turned in his embrace, looking up into his warm, steady eyes, then over at Marcus, who was waving at us from the picnic area.
“I’m thinking about how beautiful life is when you’re surrounded by people who lift you up instead of pulling you down,” I said softly.
Caleb smiled, pressing a tender kiss to my lips. “Your future is infinite, Maya.”
I looked out over the endless Texas horizon as the first evening stars began to twinkle in the clear sky. The shadows of faith turned into weapons were gone. The cruelty of a toxic marriage was distant dust.
