Chapter 8 - The Showdown at the Mansion

riday night arrived, bringing with it a thick, heavy fog that rolled in from the coast.
Inside my home, the atmosphere was quiet but charged with electric tension. Sophia sat in
the dining room, her hands wrapped tightly around her pregnant belly, while I stood in the foyer,
dressed in a sharp, elegant cream-colored pantsuit. I had spent my life in formal judicial robes, but
tonight, I wanted to face my enemy standing tall, wearing the color of absolute truth.
At 9:00 PM, my security monitors flared to life. Three black SUVs bypassed my front gates,
ramming through the heavy wrought-iron locks with brute force. They sped up the winding driveway
and screeched to a halt in front of my porch. Victor Hale stepped out of the lead vehicle, flanked by
four heavily armed private security guards. He was furious, his face twisted in a mask of pure rage.
He didn't knock this time; he used a heavy metal crowbar to smash the glass pane of my front door
and kicked the heavy oak wood open.
"Diana!" Victor roared, stepping into my grand foyer, his boots leaving muddy tracks on the
polished marble floor. "Where is she? Where is my wife? I’m taking her back, and if you so much as
take a step toward me, I’ll have my men put a bullet through your head!"
I didn't flinch. I stood at the end of the foyer, my hands casually tucked into the pockets of my
cream suit pants. Sophia stood a few paces behind me, wrapped in a white robe, her eyes wide with
fear but holding her ground beside her mother. "You are trespassing on federal property, Victor," I
said, my voice incredibly calm, echoing off the high ceilings of the foyer.
"I don't give a damn about federal property!" Victor screamed, taking a threatening step forward,
his guards raising their weapons. "I told you, I own this city! The local police won't help you, the local
judges won't help you! You have nothing! You’re just a pathetic old woman who made the mistake of
getting in my way!"
"I told you before, Victor," I said, a cold, serene smile spreading across my face as I checked my
watch. "You are on the wrong porch. And you are about thirty seconds too late."
