Chapter 2 - The Heirloom on the Wrist

"Take your hand off that watch, Marcus," I said, my voice dropping into a register so cold and steady that the room’s atmosphere instantly shifted.
Marcus smirked, stepping forward and tapping the gold bezel. "What? The old man gave it to me. Said it looked better on someone who actually knows how to run a business. You're six years too late, Isabella."
"Your father signed everything over willingly, darling," Vivian added, gliding toward me across the marble floor, her crimson dress trailing behind her like an oil slick. "The corporate equity, the voting shares, the offshore trusts, and the deed to this estate. He is legally declared cognitively incapacitated under my conservatorship. You are trespassing on private property."
I set my leather briefcase onto the mahogany console table, walked past Vivian as if she were made of thin air, and knelt beside my father on the marble floor.
"Dad," I whispered, reaching out to gently lift him into a seated position against the wall.
His skin was freezing, his pulse racing, his pupils dilated into pinpricks. The chemical scent of concentrated scopolamine and high-dose synthetic sedatives clung faintly to his breath.
"Isabella... she made me sign," my father wheezed, tears cutting clean lines through the dried blood on his bruised cheek. "She said... she said if I didn't sign the power-of-attorney... she would have you blacklisted from every federal agency in the country."
My heart broke, but my fury ignited into a blazing, calculated fire.
I stood up, turning to face Vivian and Marcus.
"You drugged him," I stated with absolute clarity. "You slipped scopolamine and midazolam into his daily IV drips after the crash, forged his signature on five corporate transfer deeds, and filed a fraudulent conservatorship docket with a compromised probate judge."

Vivian’s smug smile stiffened. "That is slander, Isabella! Marcus, call the private security gate! Have this girl thrown into the street!"
"Marcus can try," I replied, pulling my smartphone from my blazer pocket. "Because three hours ago, identical forensic dossiers containing eighteen months of your offshore wire transfers, forged notary certificates, and the toxicological analysis of my father’s blood samples were hand-delivered to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation."
