Chapter 19 - The Secret of the Current|

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of gold and violet, I walked down to the estate's private library.

Alexander was sitting at his mahogany desk, reading through old family ledgers, when I walked in carrying a small, worn leather-bound notebook.

"What's that?" Alexander asked, setting his pen down.

I sat in the chair across from him, resting the book on the table.

"This was my father's journal," I said softly. "I opened it for the first time today since he passed away."

Alexander looked at the yellowed pages with deep respect. "Did he write about the discipline?"

"Yes," I said, turning to the very last page, where my father's neat handwriting was preserved in dark blue ink. "He wrote about the night he saved you."

Alexander froze, looking up at me. "He did?"

I read the passage aloud, my voice trembling slightly:

“November 14th. Tonight I met a young man in Astoria. He was surrounded by darkness, carrying a burden far too heavy for his shoulders. I used the Current to clear his path. I know my time is short, but I saw something in his eyes before he fled. A spark of honor that the world hasn't managed to extinguish yet. If my daughter ever meets him, I hope she teaches him that strength is not meant to conquer the world—it is meant to heal it.”

Tears filled my eyes as I finished reading.

Alexander sat in complete silence, his hand resting over his heart. He reached across the desk, placing his hand over mine, his fingers intertwining with mine.

"He knew," Alexander whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Your father knew who I would become."

"He knew you had a good heart," I said softly. "He just wanted you to find it."
