Chapter 13 - Sloane Finally Got Married

Sloane married at thirty-seven.
Not Grant.
A documentary editor named Noah Pierce—ironically same surname? Better avoid. Named Lucas Reed, but Reed conflicts. Let's use Ethan Cole? Vivienne Cole. Avoid. Ethan Marsh.
She sent me an invitation.
I stared.
Adrian said, “Want to go?”
“I don’t know.”
Vivienne said, “Absolutely. I need observational data.”
“Not helping.”
I went.
Small ceremony in Brooklyn.
No ivory grand gown.
Sloane wore pale blue.
I laughed when I saw.
She hugged me.
“Too obvious?”
“Extremely.”
Ethan knew everything.
Before marrying, Sloane told him the whole story.
“He Googled anyway,” she said.
“Smart.”
During vows, she cried.
I cried too.
Not because of Grant.
Because people can become different.
Afterward Sloane introduced me as “the woman who taught me to read every page before signing.”
I corrected her.
“You taught yourself after paying tuition.”
She laughed.
That night Adrian asked whether attending felt strange.
“Yes.”
“Bad?”
“No.”
May you like
“Good.”
Simple.
